#FacesOfTrentU: Cultivating a Sense of Belonging at Trent
Lawrence Lam, Otonabee College, Senior Director of Student Affairs
Starting in the Student Housing department at Trent University, Lawrence Lam is enthusiastic about continuing to support Trent students within his new role as the senior director of Student Affairs.
Lawrence is passionate about student success and cultivating a sense of belonging on campus. Lawrence has been a vital support system for the Trent student community in his previous role as assistant director of residence life and education – a role focused on student support and building a positive residential life community.
“Student Affairs contributes to Trent’s vibrant and caring communities by providing academic, social, and personal support to students,” says Lawrence. “As a Student Affairs team, we strive to create a stellar and transformative student experience. People are limitless and it’s exciting to help students succeed and exceed their goals. I’m driven by exploring opportunities/potential, and the pursuit of excellence - I like to dream big and be creative to make this happen.”
Creating a supportive environment on campus
With student success being a priority for Lawrence, he centres his role around connections and supports that students can utilize during their time at Trent.
“I hope that, in one way or another, I’m able to help each student walk across the stage at convocation. Before that though, I hope that I can ensure that each student feels a sense of belonging at Trent, that they are safe, that they feel inspired, and that they have the networks/supports they need to be successful.”
