Trent University Ranks #3 Undergraduate Research University in Ontario; #6 in Canada
2021 Research Infosource undergraduate rankings also place Trent in national Winner’s Circle, #2 in all of Canada for growth in corporate and non-profit research income
Strong increases in corporate and non-profit research income growth have bolstered Trent University as one of the top undergraduate research universities in Canada, according to the annual rankings by Research Infosource Inc.
In the 2021 rankings of Canada’s top 50 research universities, Trent ranked #3 in Ontario and #6 in all of Canada in the undergraduate category. This year’s rankings also place the University in the undergraduate Winner’s Circle in two categories – #1 in Ontario (#2 in Canada) for not-for-profit research income growth percentage and #2 in Canada for corporate research income growth percentage.

The 2021 results also showcase some of the biggest strides universities have taken in key categories over the past two decades. In the Spotlight on Two Decades of University Research Progress, Trent was ranked second among undergraduate institutions for the growth percentage of corporate and not-for-profit research income, increasing research income in these categories by nearly 300% and more than 3,000%, respectively, over the last 20 years.
The results speak strongly to Trent’s long-standing reputation as an interdisciplinary, research-intensive institution and complement the University’s rankings by Maclean’s, as the top undergraduate institution in Ontario, now 11 years running.
