Minimum Wage Increase Begins January 1, 2022
A message from Human Resources for university departments hiring student employees
This is a notice from Human Resources to all departments across the University, which have or are hiring student employees, about the minimum wage increases that will be effective as of January 1, 2022.
The general minimum wage in Ontario will increase to $15.00 per hour. As a result of this legislated change, as of January 1, 2022, Trent University will be changing the two non-union student employee pay rates to the following:
- 1. Unspecialized Jobs: increase from $14.35 to $15.00 per hour
- 2. Specialized Jobs: increase from $14.85 to $15.50 per hour
For student employees currently employed, the Payroll Office will automatically update the old rates to the new rates on January 1, 2022. No action is required by the employee or supervisor.
For non-union students not yet hired, please ensure the new rates are used as of January 1, 2022.
As a reminder, a Student/Casual Employment Record Form must be completed for each position and are required to be submitted to the Payroll Office prior to the commencement of work.
Visit the Human Resource website for further information on hiring student employees.
