Winning Free Tuition Fast-Tracks Future Trent Student’s Social Work Dream
Taryn Harle excited to start her next chapter at Trent this fall
While attending Trent’s Fall Virtual Open House in September 2020, Taryn Harle did not picture herself being on campus just a year later – now, winning Trent’s free first-year tuition draw has made her dream of studying Social Work at a top university a reality.
“When I first heard the news I was completely shocked and I started crying because of how surprised and happy I was. I had never won something this big in my life,” says Taryn. “I was planning on taking a gap year so I could save more money for university but now I’m able to begin university this fall rather than next year. I will forever be grateful for this prize and opportunity.”
Every year, future Trent students have the opportunity to win free first-year tuition, simply by attending one of Trent’s many virtual and in person events, such as the Fall Preview, Open House, or campus tours.
After hearing positive things about Trent from peers and family friends, Taryn attended a few of the University’s virtual events during the fall, and soon knew that Trent’s close-knit community was the perfect fit for her to pursue a degree in Social Work – something she is really passionate about.
“I chose Social Work because I want to make a difference in the world, I want to be able to truly help people during difficult times,” Taryn explains. “I’ve benefited from social work support in the past, so I understand just how important and necessary social workers are to the world. I think it is a really challenging yet rewarding career and I'm excited to begin my own journey in this field.”
Taryn will be living in residence on Trent’s Peterborough campus and looks forward to joining the collegiate community on campus – with Champlain and Gzowski colleges topping her list.
