Lady Eaton College Celebrates Spring and Its Graduates
Every year Lady Eaton College celebrates spring and the successes of its graduating class. This year almost 170 graduating and returning students participated in the Spring Celebration Dinner and Graduate Reception on March 27th.
The evening began with the Graduate Reception hosted by the College Cabinet in the LEC Pit. Cake and refreshments were served while students reminisced about their years at Trent. After the reception, students wearing Trent gowns and college scarves walked with college fellows to the Dining Hall for the dinner and awards ceremony.
The emcees for the dinner were graduating student Rachel Artuso and Cabinet Prime Minister Kimberlee Ladouceur.
Lady Eaton College Principal, Dr. Michael Eamon, gave an address reminding students, regardless of their year, not to forget the spirit of the college that is summed its motto: Sapientia et Humanitas (wisdom and the grace to share your gifts for the betterment of others). “Don’t regret, or long for the past,” Eamon advised audience, as “tradition is a guide, a light that illuminates the uncertainties of the present. Remember fondly each moment, as they will be the best moments of your life… so far. Be open to new best moments, future best moments. It is from our past experiences we can appreciate the richness that the new ones will offer.”
Following the address Charlene Taylor, a Lady Eaton alumna, presented the Alumni Recognition Award to fourth-year history student Jessica Vuong. Later, the new College Assistant, Jessica Fudge, awarded prizes to the winners of the annual college photography contest.
A brand new award, named in honour of the current principal, was also debuted. Created by the LEC Cabinet, the honour will be presented annually to the person who has done the most to promote music and the visual arts in the college.
The evening ended with the announcing of newly elected members of the LEC Cabinet and an address from the incoming Prime Minister, Kimberlee Ladouceur.
Congratulations to all graduates and award winners!
