Frost Week Goes Virtual
From Zoom Yoga to Drag Bingo, virtual events organized by Trent Central Student Association help students socialize and de-stress as winter term gets underway
Frost Week has been a mainstay at Trent for almost a decade. Each January, the Trent Central Student Association (TCSA) organizes Frost Week to welcome new and returning students to the winter semester.
This year Frost Week looked a little different as all events went virtual. Online activities like Zoom Yoga, Drag Bingo and an Instagram Live introduction to Trent clubs and groups were all designed with one goal in mind – to keep our campus community connected and engaged during a time of physical distancing.
“We planned these events to occur virtually due to the pandemic and felt that it was important to hold these events as a way to boost morale during a time when people don't have many opportunities to connect with others or to have some fun and enjoy something outside of school,” explained Christine Liu, communications manager for the TCSA.
Claudia Burchat, a second-year Forensics student, attended Frost Week’s Drag Bingo and won a personal meet and greet with the host, Shuga Cain. “This was a nice de-stresser night,” shared Ms. Burchat. “Especially because so much has changed with classes in the past few weeks. Thank you to the TCSA for doing this!”
The last event of Frost Week – an Instagram Live introduction to clubs and groups at Trent – reminded students of more opportunities to connect with their peers and their passions, exploring everything from academic clubs like the Philosophy Society, cultural groups like the Trent African Caribbean Student Union, and career-focused clubs like the Trent Student Business Association.
“Getting involved on campus is vital to the student experience at Trent, and it is a great way to meet new students with similar interests, gain new skills for resumes and co-curricular records, and feel a sense of belonging during a time when many students are studying remotely,” said Ms. Liu.
