Trent University Mourns the Loss of Christy Carlson
Christy worked at Trent for nearly 20 years
The Trent University community is saddened to learn of the passing of long-serving employee Christy Carlson.
Christy’s career at Trent started in 2002 when she began teaching courses in Gender and Women’s Studies. Beginning in 2004, she held the position of academic counsellor in Julian Blackburn College while continuing to teach in the Departments of English and Gender and Women’s Studies. She joined Traill College as a senior tutor in 2009 and became the Otonabee College academic advisor in 2012. In 2018, Christy joined Gzowski College and took on the role of team lead for academic advising in 2019.
Christy had many friends and colleagues at Trent and in the advising community across North America. She was well respected for her academic work in the field of advising theory and practice and known for being compassionate and thoughtful in her advising role and her interactions with students. She also contributed to multiple University committees.
Trent University extends heartfelt sympathies to Christy’s family and friends, and to all who knew her.
Information regarding a service will be shared with the campus community as soon as it is available. In honour of Christy, the University will lower the flag atop the Bata Library to half-mast position on the day of her service.
Cards and messages for Christy’s family can be sent to the Gzowski College office (suite 214, Enwayaang Building, Trent University, 1600 West Bank Drive, Peterborough, ON K9L 0G2).
