First-ever Forensic Science Graduate Student Delegation Presents at Canadian Universities for Forensic Science (CUFFS) conference
Trent University’s inaugural Master of Science in Forensic Science class presented new podcast series at a national forensic science conference
Trent University's reputation in forensics grows with the very first cohort of Master of Science in Forensic Science (M.Sc.F.S.) students demonstrating leadership at a sector conference. The Masters students were tasked with creating an original podcast series, Mastering Forensics, as a part of the Advanced Topics in Forensic Science course. Collectively, the group presented at the Canadian Universities for Forensic Science (CUFFS) conference held in Toronto, Ontario earlier in April.
Rebecca Schalike and Julie Ly of the M.Sc.F.S. program and Amanda Orr, a graduate student in the Environmental & Life Sciences graduate program, also presented on various topics in the forensic sciences.
“This was a fantastic experience for our graduate students to meet experts in the field and also to demonstrate their capacity as contributing members to the forensic science community,” says Dr. Theresa Stotesbury, senior lecturer and course instructor in the new Masters of Forensics program.
“The CUFFS conference provided the students with an opportunity to liaise with other forensic science students and professionals in the field, and our strong presence at this conference highlights the fact that talented students interested in continuing their studies in forensic science no longer have to go abroad for graduate studies,” says Dr. Christopher Kyle, director of the program.
The graduate students are now embarking on their summer semester placements, the final component of their degree.
"It is exciting to see the opportunities our students are experiencing during their degree. The experiential learning opportunities and the ability to interact with experts in the field help train our students in the state-of-the-art of the discipline of forensic science,” says Dr. Craig Brunetti, dean of Graduate Studies.
