A Transformed Space & Better Usability: Exciting Changes to Bata Library
New library services platform comes to Trent
New offerings and upgrades are just one part of the current Bata transformation project. Currently undergoing an amazing revitalization and transformation, the library will re-open this fall with not only a new space, but also with plans in place for a new library services platform that will enhance the user experience.
As part of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), Trent University is one of an initial group of 13 member universities in the province that will be upgrading from their current local systems to a shared, cloud-based library services platform, using the Ex Libris Alma® and Ex Libris Primo® solutions. This state-of-the-art system will enhance the user experience for students, maximize discoverability, resource sharing, and collaboration across different Ontario university libraries. The new library services platform will be implemented at Trent and all other participating libraries in late 2019.
“Trent University’s reputation for high quality academic programming as well as excellence and innovation in research is evidenced by the Library and Archives’ active role in this exciting initiative,” said Robert Clarke, university librarian. “We value the role of our library as both a physical and digital space where ideas, discovery and innovation come together and look forward to the reveal of the Bata Library transformation as it moves to both a place for printed books, and a hub for modern research and innovation.”
The new platform will provide OCUL libraries with the opportunity to share data, collaborate more efficiently, and streamline workflows. In addition, to support data-driven decision-making, librarians will be able to generate cross-campus analytics for an effective review of system-wide sharing, collection development, and resource usage.
