OPSEU Settlement Ratified by Trent University’s Board of Governors and OPSEU Local 365
OPSEU Local 365 and Trent University are pleased to jointly announce that a new collective agreement has been finalized, following ratification of the agreement at the Board of Governors meeting on Monday, June 25, 2018. The agreement was previously ratified by the majority of voting members of OPSEU on Thursday, June 21, 2018.
OPSEU local 365 represents 390 members; the bargaining unit consists of support staff at Trent and includes such positions as caretakers, administrative support, secretaries, systems analysts, maintenance workers, demonstrators, and teaching assistants.
“I’d like to congratulate both bargaining teams for their work on reaching this agreement,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent. “This new agreement will provide longer term labour stability, while ensuring the necessary flexibility for the University to continue to meet its goals and objectives, ultimately enhancing the overall student experience.”

Highlights of the agreement include:
- A four-year term commencing July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022
- Compliance with Bill 148 (vacation, maternity/parental leaves, on-call pay)
- Increases to Psychological care benefits, Shift differential premiums, and Flexible benefits
- A commitment to pursue a Jointly Sponsored Pension Plan, increased education and information sessions to OPSEU membership, modifications of participant contribution rate to achieve 50/50 cost sharing.
- Across-the-board wage increases in each of the four years
