School of Business Marketing Expertise Grows at Trent University Durham GTA
Lecturer and researcher Dr. Ken Chen excited by opportunities at Trent’s thriving GTA campus
Having built a successful strategic marketing career with a number of entrepreneurial organizations and industries, Dr. Ken Chen was searching for a new direction that would, “make me jump out of bed every morning.” He found what he was looking for in the School of Business at Trent University Durham GTA.
“Trent Durham’s emphasis on both teaching and research excellence truly resonates with me,” says Professor Chen. “Teaching and research must work together to contribute to a quality educational experience for students, as well as the development of greater society.”
Prof. Chen’s research centres on innovation and entrepreneurship strategies in hi-tech and fast-paced markets with current projects focused on dynamic capabilities, or, as he explains it:
“organizational processes and routines that help companies adapt to, or even shape, changes in external environments. I think these capabilities will become crucial to the health of managers and organizations in increasingly automated and digitalized business environments.”
Prof. Chen credits his students with providing him “excellent feedback” that helps him develop novel and interesting research questions. Trent’s School of Business, he adds, provides the perfect setting for his pursuits and those of his students.
“The rich interactions and networks of relationships involving students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders are patently obvious to anyone who has spent time at Trent. We have built a learning environment where students are supported to acquire knowledge, build relationships and create their own paths. My teaching style, which emphasizes action, practice and integrative thinking, fits very well with this learning environment.”
Trent’s School of Business, adds Mr. Chen, provides a business educational experience that is “relevant, differentiated and modern.”
“We are investing to grow both the scale and quality of operation, through hiring new faculties, innovating course designs, developing new programs and connecting more students with more employers. I think we will see some amazing progress on the Durham campus in the next couple years.”
