Ancient Bronze Sword Making at Trent University: Have You Tried It?
Students and community members gather for unique hands-on workshop
It’s not every day on campus that you watch experts create a bronze sword. On April 19 students and community members gathered in the Great Hall for a workshop called The Fires of Antiquity: A Bronze Sword-Casting Demonstration.
The workshop, presented by the Trent University Archaeological Research Centre (TUARC) and the History department, saw alumnus Jordan Dills ’15, a graduate from the Anthropology program, return to campus for the demonstration. Together with his partner Patrick Kenny, they replicated a bronze sword currently on display at the British Museum by casting it using a mix of traditional and modern techniques.
The two demonstrators generously offered the bronze sword they cast to the department of Anthropology. The sword will be put on display in the hall leading to the department.
