French Language Topic of Discussion for Trent Profs & Students
Trent faculty, students & Peterborough citizens come together to discuss educational issues & solutions regarding the French language
Trent University professors, students, and community members came together at Traill College on December 7 to discuss the methods of learning, teaching, and engaging with the French language. The symposium, titled “A World in Itself: Integrating French and Francophone Studies in Academia,” was held to spread awareness of the French Studies program at Trent and the Francophone community in Peterborough to determine what is needed to keep the language alive in the region.
The afternoon featured a panel of Trent faculty who discussed French educational issues such as the lack of occasions to read, speak, write, and experience the French language in an Anglophone-centred city like Peterborough, and the methods used by translators.
