Trent Excalibur Rower Wins Gold at World Championships
Excalibur’s Trevor Jones wins U23 gold in the men’s single sculls at the World Championships in Bulgaria
Years of focused training and commitment have led to an Under-23 World Championship title for third-year Trent University student and Trent Excalibur rower, Trevor Jones. With this recent win, Mr. Jones is showing the world that he has what it takes to make history.
Racing at the Under-23 World Championships in Bulgaria on July 23, Mr. Jones took to the water with the intention of coming out with a win. “I wanted to just stick to my plan,” Mr. Jones said on a live blog on the World Rowing website. “I stuck with the pack off the start. I didn't want to drop off. Then I attacked in the middle 1,000 and just emptied the tank. It was a good race.” His plan paid dividends as Mr. Jones topped his semi-final time, which was tops in the field, by a full six seconds to take the gold.
“The entire University community joins me in congratulating Trevor on this amazing accomplishment,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Athletics & Recreation at Trent University. “This achievement at the World Championship is a testament to Trevor’s athletic skill, work ethic, discipline and commitment.”
Mr. Jones will return to Canada on Monday to join his Team Ontario teammates for the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg at the end of the week.
