Trent University Saddened to Learn of the Passing of Bruce Shearer

The Trent University community was saddened to learn of the passing of Bruce Shearer. Mr. Shearer began working at Trent University in 1975 as a porter at Otonabee College, a role he held until his retirement.
Below is an excerpt from his obituary notice:
At Peterborough Regional Health Centre surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 9, 2017 in his 68th year. Bruce, beloved partner and best friend of 24 years to Janice Toms. Loving and devoted father of Jeff (Vicky), Jennifer Cooper (David), and step-father of Doug Toms (Laurie). Bruce will be sadly missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, his many nieces and nephews and his large circle of friends and co-workers. Son of the late Gavin Shearer and Honey Tarkington. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Memorial Reception at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road on Saturday, July 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In memory of Bruce, and in lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. In tribute to Mr. Shearer’s long-serving career at Trent and Otonabee College, donations can also be made to the Otonabee College Endowment fund at Trent University.
