Students Encouraged to 'Get Involved' at Trent Durham
Another 'Get Involved' week wraps up at the Trent Durham campus
Tables filled with sign-up sheets, not to mention sweets and treats, lined the halls of Trent University Durham during the annual Get Involved Week, which ran from September 12 to 15, giving students the opportunity to check out all of the clubs, groups and intramural activities available to them on campus.
“Get involved week is always a fun event,” noted Chris Nelan, student life coordinator. “It’s a great way for new students to get a flavour for all of the things happening on campus; it’s also nice to see upper year students re-joining, or even managing the clubs and groups that they’ve been a part of throughout their university experience.”
Get Involved Week is a co-coordinated by Student Affairs and the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA), and is growing each year as student enrolment expands. This year, two new groups were added to the roster, including the Trent Ethnic Voices Association, which aims to give students a platform to discuss issues surrounding race, ethnicity and culture. Also new this year is Trent Durham’s extramural soccer team, which grabbed the attention of many students who are gearing up to take on other college and university soccer teams throughout the province.
“Here at Trent Durham students also have the opportunity to create their own clubs,” added Mr. Nelan. “If students have a passion or interest that isn’t currently offered, it’s easy for them to apply for and create the group through the TDSA. Getting involved on campus is easy and accessible and we’re looking forward to another great academic year ahead.”
