GO Expansion Announcement Great News for Trent Durham
New Oshawa Go Station to be moved to within walking distance of Trent University Durham
Trent University is welcoming the recent announcement by the Provincial Government to expand the GO rail service through Oshawa into Bowmanville and moving the current GO Station, currently located south of the 401, north to Thornton Road, within walking distance of Trent’s Durham campus by 2024.
“This is great news for our campus as we seek to grow enrolment,” remarked Joe Muldoon, head of Trent University Durham. “The GO expansion will provide our students with convenient, affordable and dependable transit with a station that is less than a kilometre from our doorstep.”
The announcement also positively impacts the Durham Learning and Business hub (dLAB), a partnership between Durham College, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Trent University Durham, River Oaks Group and Halloway Developments Ltd., with the intention to bring private enterprise together with higher education and emerging technology and create a dynamic new urban hub of talent, innovation and growth. The new “Thornton’s Corners” GO Station will be located on the north-east corner of the dLAB site.
“Trent is uniquely benefitting from this good news story, and this announcement is truly a reflection of the collaboration of many community leaders who have worked with the provincial government to address some of the infrastructure issues,” continued Mr. Muldoon. “It’s a great community story, a win for the Durham Region and Trent University Durham is thrilled to be a part of this historical announcement.”
