New Professor at Trent University Durham Bolsters Growing Business Program
Human Resource Management Expert Professor Amina Malik joins the University with a focus on emerging HR issues
Students at Trent University Durham will see a new face on campus this fall as Professor Amina Malik joins the popular business program at Trent’s GTA location, where the new professor will teach many of the postgraduate Human Resource Management courses as well as other offerings from the expanding business calendar.
“We are thrilled that Prof. Malik will be joining us this fall,” noted Joe Muldoon, head of Trent University Durham. “This new tenure track position at the Durham campus will solidify our business degree offerings and increase opportunities for our business students.”
Armed with several awards and peer-evaluated published works, Prof. Malik comes to Trent after obtaining her doctoral studies in Human Resource Management from York University and a Masters of Business Administration from Ryerson University. Prior to that, Prof. Malik received a Master of Science in Management as well as a Master in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of the Punjab in Pakistan.
“It is a great pleasure to join Trent University and be a part of a team who greatly emphasizes academic excellence,” remarked Prof. Malik. “The Trent business program prepares students for an ever-evolving corporate world by providing them with a solid theoretical background along with a practical exposure to real life business issues through internships and community-based research projects. As a new faculty member at Trent Durham, I aim to bring a meaningful experience to the Durham campus by encouraging critical thinking among students and creating an environment which is congenial to learning.”
Prof. Malik’s research interests include emerging issues in human resource management, including talent management, immigrant adjustment and expatriate adjustment, to name a few. Her topical research earned her an honourable mention award at the 2014 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) conference and she was nominated for Gustavson School Award at the Academy of Management Conference 2014. Her work has appeared in high impact journals such as Human Resource Management Review and International Journal of Cross Cultural Management, among others. She has also published a case study on workforce planning in Managing Human Resources (7th Canadian Edition), a leading textbook in Canada.
Currently, Prof. Malik is teaching at the Centre for Business at George Brown College and is serving for a second term as divisional editor for the HR division of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. Previously, she taught Organizational Behaviour at Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University.
Trent’s Business Administration program focuses on economics, management and entrepreneurship with a full slate of accounting courses that prepares students for the CPA designation or as a launch pad to an MBA. It is also the only university in Canada to offer a wide range of joint majors in Business Administration, allowing students to combine business courses with other areas of interest – from Media Studies to Sociology.
