One of Trent’s longest-standing traditions, this annual Trent event attracts alumni, students and community members alike for a busy weekend full of activities framed around the exciting Head of the Trent rowing competition, the largest single day event of its kind in North America.
Highlights of this year’s weekend-long event included:
Official Opening of the Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre
On Saturday at 12:30 p.m. special opening ceremonies were held for the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre (TCSRC) – a modern, multi-sport centre of excellence, designed to serve the wellness needs of all residents of the Peterborough Region. Members of the community were invited to join Mayor Paul Ayotte, Trent University President Dr. Steven E. Franklin, and other dignitaries, at the Official Opening Ceremony. Following the ceremonies, informal tours of the facility were held, highlighting such state-of-the-art new features, such as the climbing wall, cardio loft overlooking the Otonabee River, Trent Health in Motion in the Centre for Health Excellence, and North America’s most advanced indoor rowing/paddling tank.
Head of the Trent Rowing Regatta
The 40th annual Head of the Trent, North America’s largest single-day head race regatta, was underway by 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 2. Over a thousand athletes from all over Ontario, Quebec and the North-Eastern United States, and representing more than 50 universities and clubs, travelled to Peterborough to participate in this year’s regatta. Races took place on the Trent-Severn Waterway, starting at the Parkhill Road Bridge and winding through the Trent Canal to finish 5km later at Trent’s Symons Campus, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. The race’s rich history and unbeatable atmosphere made the Head of the Trent this region’s premiere rowing event of the fall.

The homecoming festival returned for another year to Champlain Field, next to Alumni House. Running from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the festival included a licensed tent and BBQ, an Alumni House open house and lots of fun children’s activities, including face painting and free balloons.
