Wild Rock Outfitters Names Trent’s Outdoor Canoe Centre
Local business lends support to the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre
The outdoor canoe centre at the expanded and revitalized Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre (TCSRC) has a new name, thanks to a generous $25,000 gift from local business Wild Rock Outfitters to the Sport, Recreation & Wellness for All Campaign.
The Wild Rock Outfitters Canoe Centre will be the focus of much of the waterfront programming at the new Athletics Centre, including the Trent Summer Sports Camp and the Active Youth Outdoor Education and Leadership Program. Access to the canoe centre is also included in TCSRC memberships, and will be utilized by numerous community groups and local residents.
Located on the shores of the Otonabee River beside the TCSRC, the Wild Rock Outfitters Canoe Centre currently includes ten canoes, paddles and life jackets, and a wide platform dock system for safe boat entry and exit.
“We take great pride in helping to take the new sport and recreation facility at Trent from vision to reality,” said Kieran Andrews, co-owner of Wild Rock.
Co-owner Scott Murison added, “The Kawarthas is the birthplace of the modern canoe and home to numerous lakes and rivers. It's an outdoor playground begging to be explored and we are thrilled to be part of the Peterborough/Trent community.”
This is the first gift to Trent University by the owners of Wild Rock Outfitters, a local retail store dedicated to non-motorized fun in the great outdoors. In September, the co-owners presented Dianne Lister, vice president of External Relations and Advancement at Trent, with their pledge of $25,000.
“This generous philanthropic gift from Wild Rock Outfitters demonstrates just how much being part of the Peterborough/Trent community means to them and naming the Canoe Centre in their honour is a perfectly matched tribute,” said Ms. Lister.
