Trent University’s Eunice Lund-Lucas a “Tour de Force” in Disability Services
Eunice Lund-Lucas Receives Lifetime Membership Award from the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services
Head of the Disability Services Office since the 1980’s, Trent University’s Eunice Lund-Lucas was presented with a Lifetime Membership Award by the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS), at the annual banquet held in Toronto on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
“It’s nice to be recognized by professional colleagues because they understand what it takes to do the work - and to have the Caucus acknowledge how it contributes to the success of students, which is our goal.”
The CACUSS Award for Lifetime Membership is given by the Association to members who are at the end of their professional career and are nominated by their division.
Ms. Lund-Lucas was the second person nominated in twelve years by the CADSPPE Division, put forward not only for her 21 years of service in the Disability Services Office at Trent, but also for her work at the provincial, national and international levels.
As chair of the provincial organization, Ms. Lund-Lucas spearheaded holding the annual general meeting at CACUSS, so that critical mass could establish a division at the national level. She also served as the international director on the board of the association of higher education and disability (AHEAD) for two years.
When the Disability Services Office began at Trent, there were 37 students. After 21 years there are now 622. “We are recognized as a leader in the field provincially and nationally,” said Ms. Lund-Lucas. “We have an amazing dynamic team and we all believe in the abilities of the students we support and their possibilities to achieve their full potential, both academically and otherwise.”
Ms. Lund-Lucas said that her proudest moment comes, “every year at Convocation, when I see our students cross the podium to get their degrees.”
