Trent Summer Sports Camp Celebrating 19th Season - Spaces Still Available!
Over 800 campers between 5 and 17 years of age enjoying variety of activities at state-of-the-art new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre
The 19th season of the popular Trent Summer Sports Camp (TSSC) is currently underway with over 800 campers between the ages of five and 17 scheduled to participate in a variety of exciting sport and recreation activities over four two-week sessions at the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre (TCSRC) at Trent University.
Enhancing the TSSC experience this year are the state-of-the-art facilities at the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre, which opened in September 2010. At the Centre, campers are enjoying new activities that take advantage of the building’s unique features, including the indoor climbing wall and indoor rowing/paddling tank, as well as renovated pool and expanded Wildrock Canoe Centre.
"The completion of the new Athletics Centre here at Trent has opened up many opportunities for Trent Summer Sports Camp. We now have amazing new top-notch facilities to complement what we are already known for, quality sports and nature programs and outstanding counsellors,” said Melanie Sedge, TSSC director. “We are taking advantage of these facilities as much as possible within all facets of programming and campers are experiencing a better than ever TSSC."
In addition to the new facilities, there are also several new additions to the 2011 camp program. Following requests from parents over the years, the popular Introsport program for the youngest campers (5-6 years of age) is now a full-day program and a new Fitsport program has been added to the very popular Adventuresport program for 13-15 year olds. Based on suggestions and feedback from Leader-in-Training campers, the TSSC has also added a three week Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) Program for 16-17 year olds. This new three-week CIT program will run for the first time from August 8 to 26, 2011.
With two sessions of TSSC nearly complete, the two remaining sessions are slated to begin in August. Spaces are still available for the August 2-12 and the August 15-26 sessions. Please visit www.trentsummersportscamp.ca or call (705) 748-1670 for information and to register.
TSSC is run by the Athletics & Recreation Department at Trent University and has a long reputation of being an outstanding summer program for children. The camp is a thriving piece of community programming that benefits not only the campers, but also the entire Peterborough region as one of the only summer camps offered in the ever-growing North end of the city.
