Athletic Building
renamed: PSB Wilson Building
Trent and Community Celebrate Paul Wilson
As
students, faculty, and staff at Trent University gathered to honour former
University athletic director Paul Wilson, President Bonnie Patterson announced
that the current athletic building will be renamed The PSB Wilson Building
to commemorate his contributions to Trent and the community.
"Paul Wilson has made a lasting impression on all of us," commented
President Patterson, " and the PSB Wilson Building will ensure his
legacy at Trent goes on." Mr. Wilson, who has garnered several awards
over the years, most recently won the Symons Award for outstanding teaching
and exemplary concern for students at Trent University, the school’s
top teaching honour normally reserved for professors.
The naming of the PSB Wilson Building coincided with the launch of yet
another event celebrating Mr. Wilson. The Peterborough Community Dinner
to Honour Paul Wilson will be held October 26th at the Evinrude Centre
emceed by Al Simmons and featuring Mayor Sylvia Sutherland, MP Peter Adams,
Erica Cherney, and Olympic Gold Medallist and Trent alumnus Rob Marland.
Tickets are $50 and the proceeds will go toward the PSB Wilson Fund, a
permanent endowment fund to improve facilities and equipment at Trent
University.
Mr. Wilson
is recognized as an advocate of sport and academics—and has gained
recognition for many a student who excels in these areas. An avid promoter
of athletics, Mr. Wilson has always been a supporter of squash and rugby
at the local, regional, and national levels and was responsible for the
installation of the first squash facilities in the community at Trent
University. As he retired this past summer, hundreds of messages poured
in from past students who remarked on the impact he had on their lives.
A
number of community members and Trent alum have helped with the planning
of the dinner. Local entrepreneur and Trent supporter Ross Smith is Honourary
Captain along with Mayor Sylvia Sutherland and Rob Marland, and Trent
alumna Karen Sisson is Captain of the dinner.
Tickets for the Peterborough Community Dinner to Honour Paul Wilson can
be purchased through the Trent University Alumni Office, Langton House,
Traill College, London & Reid Streets (southeast corner), or by calling
748-1599.
