CONVOCATION CELEBRATES STUDENT EXCELLENCE AT TRENT UNIVERSITY

Medal winners to be honoured at graduation ceremonies

Eight graduating students at Trent University are being presented with special academic awards at Trent University's 35th spring convocation ceremony to be held on Friday, May 31, 2002.

Governor General's Gold Medal:

The Governor General's Medal to reward scholastic merit was established in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin who served as Governor General of Canada from 1872 to 1878. The Governor General's Silver Medal is awarded to the Honours student with the highest academic standing on graduation in the Bachelor's degree program. The Gold Medal is awarded to the student with the highest academic standing on graduation in the Master's and Doctoral degree programs.

Governor General's Silver Medal

Lisa Joanne Rahmer - Kingston, Ontario

President Symons Medals

The Symons Medal was established in 1972 in honour of T.H.B. Symons, the founding president of Trent University. This medal is awarded to students in the Honours program who achieve high overall standing on graduation.

BA (Hon) Comparative Development Studies/Women's Studies - Peter Robinson College

Bagnani Medals

The Bagnani Medal was established in 1986 to honour the late Professor Gilbert Bagnani, one of the founding faculty members of Trent University. This medal is awarded to students in the General program who achieve high overall standing on graduation.

Jennifer Marguerite Sprague - Lakefield, Ontario
BSc. Psychology - Otonabee College

The ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 10 am and 3 pm.
