Trent University and Sir Sandford Fleming College have arranged an information session at the Otonabee Best Western Hotel on Wednesday, November 28th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to discuss the double cohort. Students, parents, teachers, principals, guidance counsellors-those with an interest in double cohort issues-are welcome. What is the "double cohort"? Due to a provincial decision to eliminate grade 13 in the fall of 2003, colleges and universities will experience an increase in applications. As the first students in the new four-year high school program and those in the OAC year of the old five-year program, graduate at the same time, both groups may apply to post-secondary institutions in the same year. These students are considered part of the "double cohort". Estimates indicate that 78,000 additional students will be enrolled at colleges and universities by 2005-2006 province-wide. Trent University and Fleming College are collaborating on this information session to explain how each institution will be dealing with the double cohort. The session will allow schools, groups, and individuals to hear about these plans, raise issues, and ask questions of experienced staff and faculty. Trent University President Bonnie Patterson,
Fleming College President Brian Desbiens, and institutional representatives
will be in attendance.
