In keeping with an innovative partnership between Bell and Trent University, the two organizations are teaming up to hold "Partnership Breakfasts" in Toronto on March 6th and April 4th 2002.

The breakfast sessions will be informative meetings about benefit of partnerships and the synergies between technology and higher learning in the liberal arts. Don Tapscott, a Dot Com success story and champion of liberal arts and science education, will speak on the topic of the University of the 21st Century-highlighting the value of broad-based educational experience combined with technological savvy.

Terry Mosey, Vice President, Bell Ontario and John Hertel, Vice President of Bell Canada Sales are hosting the breakfasts with Trent President Bonnie Patterson to demonstrate the benefits that can result from strong partnerships. Bell's investment in the technology infrastructure of Trent University and our ongoing partnership is enabling thousands of students to gain access to the advanced learning technologies which will further their studies and provide a sound foundation for the future. We believe partnerships such as this one are an excellent opportunity for other corporations.

Trent President Bonnie Patterson, who will speak about future directions for Trent and liberal arts education, applauded the Bell initiative. "These breakfasts are another example of Bell's dedication to the goals and values of a liberal arts and science education, and more specifically Bell's commitment to Trent," said President Patterson. "Bell and Trent believe that technology and broad-based education create better leaders for the future."

Bell's $1.4 million partnership over the past five years and 2001 commitment to Trent included a new telecommunications system for Trent's campuses, significant on-and off-campus Internet access for students through Bell's High Speed Sympatico product, and the donation of video conferencing equipment. In addition, significant resources have been invested towards the development of a web-based liberal arts and sciences curriculum, the creation of a Bell World location on campus, agreements that support enrollment of Bell employees in Trent's emerging web and video-conferencing based professional development, degree completion and distance learning programs.

Bell and Trent will make use of video-conferencing equipment donated by Bell to link Trent's Peterborough Campus with Toronto for a presentation by Professor Beth Popham, who will speak about "bringing the liberal arts advantage to industry."
