Trent University Board of Governors Announces New Appointments |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New External and Internal Appointees Replace Retiring Members Friday, June 23, 2006, Peterborough Trent University's Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of several new external and internal members. Replacing retiring external members Jane Dudas, Bill Saunderson, and Graeme Ross are Pamela Jeffery, Joan Bush, and Larry Popofsky. Retiring internal members, John Casserly and Cat Dickinson, will be succeeded by Linda Smith and Colin Whitfield. Board Chair Reid Morden thanked each of the retiring members for the commitment and service to the University. Biographic information on the new external appointees is as follows: Pamela Postian Jeffery Pamela Postian Jeffery is one of Canada's top public affairs executives. She founded The Jeffrey Group, a government relations strategy practice, in 1994. Since then the professional services firm has grown to include a communications strategy practice, an executive search practice, and the Women's Executive Network. Joan E. Bush Joan Bush started her career with a major international Oil and Petro-Chemical company. With a background in Mechanical Engineering her career was focused in numerous technical endeavours including leading edge organizational design in a production environment. In later years her career took on a global focus bringing innovative technical design and services marketed in Canada, the first of its kind in the oil industry. Since 1994 Ms. Bush has been President of Joint Venture Finance Inc, a company specializing in mergers and acquisitions in high technology and manufacturing sectors. Ms. Bush has been involved with many charitable and community causes around the world including Bam Earthquake relief, Tsunami and Oxfam relief funds. Visiting many of these areas, including India, Iran, Iraq and various African nations, her work has primarily focused on women's issues such as poverty, homelessness and education. As a Director of the Kiani Foundation, she has contributed extensively to the community through numerous charities including local hospitals, scholarship funds and youth and women's shelters. Larry Popofsky Prior to his retirement in 2003, Larry Popofsky was the Chief Executive Officer of Greenwin Property Management Inc. Under his direction, the firm grew, through a series of strategic acquisitions, to become one of Canada's largest and respected real estate management companies administering real estate assets with an estimated value in excess of 5 billion dollars and an employee base of over 1,400. In 1998, Mr. Popofsky led the formation of Residential Equities Real Estate Investment Trust, successfully raising approximately $225 million in the public marketplace and culminating with the Trust's listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Previously, Mr. Popofsky was a member of the private consortium, which through a vigorous tender process, secured the exclusive rights from the Province of Ontario to build and operate what is now known as the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. In addition, Mr. Popofsky has sourced, directed and concluded a significant number of business transactions with an aggregate value of several hundreds of million dollars on behalf of the Greenwin organization.
Biographic information on the new internal appointees is as follows: Linda Smith Linda Smith has been working at Trent for 20 years. Through her roles as a Text Buyer in the bookstore, and the Capital Project Coordinator in Physical Resources, Ms. Smith has had the opportunity to interact with a broad spectrum of internal staff, faculty and students, as well as representing Trent's interests to external contacts. Ms. Smith is a mother of twin girls, one attending Trent and the other in the college system. Colin Whitfield Originally from British Columbia, where he completed his undergraduate degree, Mr. Whitfield moved to Ontario in the summer of 2003 to pursue graduate research at Trent. After completing his M.Sc. degree last spring, Mr. Whitfield applied and was accepted into the Watershed Ecosystems Ph.D. program. Throughout his time at Trent, Mr. Whitfield has participated on the GSA and various university committees.
