Trent University to Host Minister at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin on February 6 |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robert Vanderloo to Deliver Talk on Canadian-German Relations, the Foreign Service as a Career, and the Youth Mobility Agreement Thursday, February 2, 2006, Peterborough Trent University is pleased to announce that Robert Vanderloo, Minister at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin, will be delivering a free, public talk entitled "A Canadian Diplomat in Berlin – Reflections of a Foreign Service Career and a Bilateral Relationship" on Monday, February 6 at 9:00 a.m. in the Pit at Lady Eaton College. The presentation will focus on three main topics, including Canada's relationship with Germany, the Foreign Service as a career, and the Youth Mobility Agreement. Mr. Vanderloo has a long history in foreign affairs, having been assigned to Bangkok, Thailand in 1988 as Trade Program Manager and holding a similar position in New Delhi, India in 1991. He has also worked in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bonn, Germany, and Jakarta, Indonesia. Back in Canada, Mr. Vanderloo held the position of Director of the Division for the Reconstruction of Eastern Europe in 1994, before taking over the Task Force that organized the Prime Minister's Team Canada visit to South and South-East Asia in January 1996. In April 1996, he became Executive Director of the APEC Canadian Coordinating Office, responsible for the organization of the APEC Economic Leaders meeting in Vancouver in November 1997. Mr. Vanderloo also held the post of Canada's Ambassador to Portugal from August 1998 to July 2002 before being appointed Minister at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin in August 2002.
