NEWS RELEASE Friday, June 3, 2005, Peterborough Trent University Chancellor Dr. Roberta Bondar presented the University with a third panoramic photograph titled Tundra Pond at a celebration of Building Capacity fund-raising campaign volunteers and major donors yesterday evening. Dr. Bondar spoke at the reception and unveiled the image - the third in a series of three arctic photographs intended for the University's permanent collection. Tundra Pond is in Aulavik National Park in the Northwest Territory. The following quote, from Dr. Bondar's book Passionate Vision ~ Discovering Canada's National Parks, relates to the photograph: "In the Arctic summer, sunlight is present all day and all night. The sun sitting low on the horizon is as close as it comes to actually setting. From inside my tent, I could see silhouettes of local insects dancing about, even in the middle of the night." Last year, Dr. Bondar donated the panoramic photograph Tanquary Fiord at a reception for friends and supporters of Trent. The first image, Sirmilik Hoodoos Panorama, from her series on Canada's National Parks in the last millennium, was presented to the University by Dr. Bondar in 2003, after she was appointed Chancellor of Trent University. -30- For more information, please contact Susan Mackle, Vice-President (Advancement) at 748-1011, ext. 1207 If you would like a digital photograph of Tundra Pond, please contact Alicia Doris, Communications Office, 748-1011, ext. 1456 |
