Trent University's Continuing Education offers DNA and Forensic Science: CSI for the Novice | ||
Monday, February 7, 2005, Peterborough Trent University's Continuing Education Department is pleased to offer DNA and Forensic Science: CSI for the Novice - starting on February 15 and continuing on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. until March 29 (no class March 15). Those who would like to know more about the science behind crime scene investigation can learn from Trent's Dr. Bradley White, director of the Natural Resources DNA Profiling and Forensic Centre, and Dr. Chris Kyle, who is co-ordinating a research project that uses DNA profiling to assess the spread of raccoon rabies in Ontario. Participants in this six-week course, which is back by popular demand, will learn how DNA profiling evidence is obtained and used in criminal investigations and other investigations surrounding poaching, paternity, immigration issues, illegal commercialization of game meat and the trade in endangered species. The course will introduce the characteristics of DNA that make it so powerful for individual identification in cases such as murder and rape, and for determining relationships such as paternity. The course will be centered on the review and discussion of specific case investigations and the nature of the DNA evidence used. The fee for the course is $139 or $125 for students, seniors and alumni.
