FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Trent University Appoints New Vice-President Administration May 3, 2004, Peterborough
In his new leadership role Mr. O'Leary will oversee a number of the University's administrative services including Physical Resources, Human Resources, Finance and Information Technology. "Don O'Leary's proven executive leadership in public administration will be a valuable asset to the University and the executive team as we continue implementation of the University's fiscal recovery plan and the implementation of future Strategic Directions," said Bonnie Patterson, President and Vice-Chancellor. "We look forward to his leadership in increasing the synergy across academic and administrative support services, developing new partnerships and tapping the revenue potential of the University's endowment lands." Mr. O'Leary brings over 25 years experience in municipal government, consulting, economic development, finance and banking to this executive role. In his most recent position as Commissioner of Corporate Services for the City of Oshawa he oversaw 270 employees who provided a diverse range of services in the Legal, Real Estate, Fire, Human Resource, Purchasing, Property Management, Clerk's Office and Technology Services Branches. As a Commissioner for the City of Oshawa, Mr. O'Leary prepared strategies related to capital assets and led a number of City-wide issues related to service improvements and organization. He has led the development of City-owned lands, promoted economic development opportunities and managed the City's energy conservation program during the 2003 power outage. "I am very excited about the opportunity to work for Trent University," said Mr. O'Leary. "The position has numerous challenges that I am looking forward to tackling as a member of the President's Executive Group. I want to thank the Trent University Board of Governors, President Bonnie Patterson and the search selection committee for their support and confidence." Trent serves 6,410 full and part-time students in Peterborough and Oshawa.
