Champlain and Gzowski Colleges in partnership with 4th Line Theatre present "Doctor Barnardo’s Children"

Wednesday, March 24, 2004, Peterborough

Trent University's Champlain and Gzowski Colleges in association with the 4th Line Theatre present a play reading of "Doctor Barnardo's Children" on March 27 at 7 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at Gzowski College on Argyle Street.

Admission is free of charge, though donations will be accepted for the Hazelbrae Barnardo Home Memorial Group and the Peterborough Youth Emergency Shelter. A reception will follow the play reading.

Doctor Barnardo's Children is written by Robert Winslow and Ian McLauchlan and focuses on the lives of children who came to southern Ontario from England in the early part of the 20th Century as part of a huge emigration scheme. These children, in the thousands, worked as farm labourers or domestic servants and had widely diverse experiences. In some cases, they found a second home. In others, they were badly treated, underfed and even physically abused. The play is loosely based on the actual experiences of these immigrant children.
