Posted: November 10, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS ADVISORY Trent community to gather in remembrance First university-wide Remembrance Day service in many years coordinated by students The Trent community will take the time to reflect and remember on November 11 at 10:30 a.m. as part of its Remembrance Day ceremony, to take place on the Bata Library Podium. All are welcome to attend; the ceremony is open to students, staff and faculty, as well as the broader Peterborough community. College cabinet representatives and members of the Religious Affairs Committee have organized the ceremony - the first university-wide Remembrance Day event in a number of years. The ceremony will include the traditional components of a Remembrance Day service, as well as a First World War poetry reading by Prof. David Glassco, of Trent's English department, and the reenactment of a portion of last summer's 4th Line Theatre play "Attrition." Written by playwright Ryan Kerr, "Attrition" examines the effects of the First World War on Peterborough families. In the story, actor Eric Craig portrayed a front-line soldier who is eventually killed in action. As part of Trent's Remembrance Day service, Mr. Craig will reprise his character from "Attrition" and read a poem from the play entitled "Apologia Pro Poemate Meo," written by poet Wilfred Owen. Students, staff and faculty will participate in the multi-faith service, through music, prayer and the laying of wreaths. A gathering in Lady Eaton College's senior common room will follow the ceremony. There, a compilation of student memories, messages and thoughts on Remembrance Day will be displayed. -30- Media representatives are invited to attend the service.
