Posted: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "Artiques Roadshow" returns to Trent in support of academic awards Following a successful first event that saw $750,000 worth of art, antiques and collectibles appraised, experts David Freeman and Marshall Gummer, of the "Artiques Roadshow," will return to Trent University on two occasions in November, in support of academic awards for students. The appraisers will divulge some secrets about how art and antiques are valued at a lecture titled "The Art of Appraising Art and Antiques" on November 4 at 7:30 p.m. On November 15 and 16 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., the "Artiques Roadshow" itself will return to Lady Eaton College. Community members will have the opportunity to have their paintings, drawings, prints, antiques and collectibles appraised, with half of the proceeds supporting Lady Eaton College scholarships for students. Last May, more than 200 people came to Trent to have their treasures appraised by Mr. Freeman and Mr. Gummer, who as the "Artiques Roadshow" team, evaluated more than $10 million worth of fine art on their Canadian tour in 2002/03. Appraisal of one item will cost $30, while two will cost $50 and three will cost $60. "The event was an outstanding success," said Prof. Arndt Kruger, principal, Lady Eaton College, adding more than $3,400 was raised for academic awards. "The appraisers were impressed by the quality of art and antiques they found in Peterborough; the treasures seemed to come out of the woodwork. People would go home and come back with more pieces and suddenly they discovered they had something of value." Mr. Freeman is a British fine art expert, art historian and author, who is working around the world. Mr. Gummer is a Canadian appraiser of antiques and collectibles with more than 25 years of experience. To avoid waiting in line, community members are encouraged to book an appointment for an appraisal on November 15 or 16 by calling Lady Eaton College: (705) 748-1322 or by e-mailing: roadshow@trentu.ca. -30- For further information, please contact Arndt Kruger, 748-1011, Ext. 1502 The following are event details:
