Director of the Centre for Psychological Medicine at
the North Wales College of Medicine, University of Wales, will visit
Trent University on October 23 at The event is sponsored by Trent’s Technologies and Cultures of Expertise Research Group and the Institute for Health Studies. Dr. Healy qualified in medicine in Dublin in 1979 and then did a MD in neuroscience in Galway on biochemical markers in depression, which he completed in 1985. He studied psychiatry at University College Galway followed by Cambridge University Clinical School, where he was a clinical research fellow. In 1990, Dr. Healy started at North Wales as a senior lecturer in psychological medicine and a consultant psychiatrist. In 1996, he became a reader in psychological medicine. Dr. Healy has authored 13 books on various aspects of psychopharmaceuticals, 110 peer-reviewed papers and approximately 100 other publications. Nine of these books are on the history of psychopharmacology, two of them from Harvard University Press. Dr. Healy has a leading role worldwide in this area. His other research interests include cognitive functioning in affective disorders and psychoses, circadian rhythms in affective disorders. -30- Media representatives
