Posted: Tuesday, October 20, 2003 Trent University outdoes itself for the United Way of Peterborough and District Faculty, staff and retirees raise $52,470, surpassing their goal Trent University’s United Way Campaign is still going strong, though faculty, staff and retirees have raised more than $52,000, exceeding their goal earlier than in previous years. The campaign pledge drive came to an official close October 17, but pledges will continue to come in until the end of the year, so Trent support for the United Way will keep getting stronger. This year’s target is to donate more than ever before; last year’s campaign total was $53,163. "A big ‘thank
you’ goes out to all our donors," says
campaign co-chair Prof. Eric Helleiner. "The Trent community
has clearly shown its support for this important cause. This
campaign has
had incredible momentum, and we look forward to further strides." Trent’s campaign includes a kick-off event with a barbecue and mini-golf, as well as casual days, from which proceeds are added to the total. So far this year, $659.35 has been raised through these events and Team Trent is looking forward to taking part in the November 5 Ride At The Y. Throughout the campaign, draw prizes, such as gift baskets, gift certificates, and a grand prize getaway for two at the Irwin Inn, were kindly donated, and awarded to faculty, staff and retirees. "Thank you to those who provided these incredible prizes," said co-ordinator Brenda Blackburn. "The creativity that went into many of them was exceptional and added to the enthusiasm for the campaign." -30- For further
