YOUTH FENCING PROGRAM AT TRENT UNIVERSITY

Spaces still available in popular program

Youth have a unique opportunity to learn the sport of fencing this fall, with the help of the Trent University Varsity Fencing team.

An eight-week learn-to-fence program is being offered at the University's Athletic Complex, to introduce youth to the competitive sport. Participants will be introduced to basic moves, footwork, techniques, and rules of the epee, foil and sabre blades. They will also learn about the history of this French martial art, and the terminology involved.

All program activities include a strong emphasis on personal and group safety, and are designed to develop co-ordination, balance, problem solving skills, and fair play.

Two programs are available, which begin the week of October 6. An introductory program will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m., and a fencing club program (for youth who have completed the introductory program) will be offered on Monday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m. The cost for each program is $60 per participant.

Trent University's Department of Athletics offers outstanding recreational and instructional programs to people of all ages, through its aquatic, camp, and leadership training programs.
