TRENT PAYS TRIBUTE TO MR. ISADORE BLACK

Flag lowered in honour of founding Board member

In tribute to the memory of the late Mr. Isadore Black, Trent University has lowered the flag atop the Bata Library to the half-mast position to honour one of its founding members of the University’s Board of Governors.

Mr. Black died in Toronto on Thursday at Sunnybrook Hospital. He was 88 years old.
" On behalf of Trent University I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Black’s family," said Susan Mackle, Vice President of Advancement.

She added that the University has been honoured by the Black family’s decision to establish a memorial fund at Trent University in Mr. Black’s honour. "This decision reflects Isadore’s deep commitment to education and to supporting young people in need," said Mackle.

The Black family has been a very generous supporter of Trent University for over 30 years. In 1969, they established the Philip and Annie C. Black Bursary. Created by Isadore Black and the late Morris Black of Peterborough, the bursary is in memory of their father, Philip Black, the first Rabbi in Peterborough, and their mother Annie.

A leader in the community and a passionate advocate for all things Canadian, Isadore Black was an active volunteer in numerous community service and charitable groups including president of the Canadian B’nai Brith and founder of the Rotary Club’s ‘Canada Day’ essay contest.

Donations to the Trent University Isadore Black memorial fund may be sent to: Trent University, Development Office, 1600 West Bank Drive, Peterborough, Ontario, K9J 7B8 or by contacting the Development Office at 748-1011, ext. 1601.
