NEW DIRECTOR FOR TRENT INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM Vice President (Academic) Graham Taylor announced that Dr. Michael Allcott has accepted an offer to become Director of the Trent International Program, as of July 1, 2003. Dr. Allcott’s appointment comes after an extensive international search conducted by the Vice President and a search committee including faculty, staff and student representation. Dr. Allcott brings to the Directorship extensive experience in international education as Associate Director of the International Center at the University of Utah since 1998. He was also Assistant to the President of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo between 1995 and 1998, and Study Abroad Adviser at the University of Utah in 1984-87. He holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from SUNY/Buffalo. "We are pleased to have Michael Allcott join our very successful TIP program at Trent," said Vice President Taylor. "He has a wide range of experience with international student recruitment, student exchange programs, ESL programs, and study-abroad programs, and at Utah developed strategies to expand international scholarships and grants in support of integrated international programs. His particular mix of experience and skills in management and fund-raising are just right for the next stage of TIP’s internationalization efforts." Dr. Taylor also expressed his thanks to Dr. Leonard Conolly for serving as Interim Director of TIP for the past two years and Dr. David Morrison who was TIP Director from 1996 to 2001. "David Morrison spearheaded Trent’s successful strategy to expand its international student numbers, and Leonard Conolly has taken us a further step toward internationalization through expanded student exchanges and delivery of ESL overseas," he said. "Their contributions – and those of the highly dedicated staff at TIP -- have provided a solid base for the International Program. Michael Allcott will be able to build on that base in promoting internationalization at Trent University." -30- Don Cumming, Senior Director, Public Affairs, (705) 748-1011, ext. 1224 |
