TRENT PROFESSOR TO SPEAK ABOUT THE WRITING OF HISTORY

History Professor Elwood Jones will speak about "Health and Welfare: Archives and the Writing of History" on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Prof. Jones has long argued that good history books begin in the archives. He has also worked with organizations in writing histories that are enjoyable and informative, full of surprises and fresh stories.

In his own research, Prof. Jones has explored newspapers and government documents, books and articles written by historians working elsewhere, and local lore, through interviews and oral history events. These methods, he feels, build upon archival information and make sense of the "silences" that sometimes exist in archival records.

Prof. Jones has written about colonial and revolutionary America, 19th-century Ontario, and Peterborough. He is the current editor of the Heritage Gazette of the Trent Valley.

This talk will take place at the Peterborough Public Library. This event is free and open to the public.
