B.A. (Ryerson), M.A., Ph.D. (Queen's),
I completed my BA in Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University in 2007. At Queen's University (Kingston) I completed an MA in International Politics in 2008 and a PhD in Comparative and International Politics in 2013. My research interests include European Politics, populism, the politics of emotion, and the politics of international hierarchies. I also published a book titled Eurozone Politics (2015), and a paperback version of the same was published in 2017. I have several ongoing research projects and activities. One work-in-progress explores how the emotional consequences of economic insecurity and financial crises impact national and international politics. Another is a paper that applies a neo Gramcian framework to Europe's inter-state hierarchy, with a particular focus on France and Italy. From the summer of 2016 to the summer 2018, together with collaborators Joel Busher and Gavin Sullivan, both of Coventry University, I co-edited a special edition for the Journal of Humanity and Society titled "The Emotional Dynamics of Backlash Politics"; the full special issue can be found here: https://journals.sagepub.com/toc/has/current. In February 2018, I won a grant to fund primary research in France, which I carried out in April/May 2018, including interviews of populist politicians. Finally, I appear regularly in the media to discuss European political and financial issues. For fun, I read classical literature, do hip-hop dancing, and try to write poetry.
