Professor Stoyles received his B.A. in philosophy from Huron University College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of Western Ontario where he completed a dissertation entitled The Value of Death. Before joining Trent, he held teaching positions at The University of Western Ontario and McGill University. Professor Stoyles’ main research interests lie in ancient philosophy and ethical theory. He is also interested in the history of philosophy (broadly construed), practical ethics, and philosophy of law.
