Rugby Team
Remains Undefeated
Stellar
season underway for men’s varsity team
The
men’s varsity rugby team at Trent University remains undefeated
this season, after a triumph over the University of Toronto’s team
on Saturday, October 5.
Both the Trent and UofT teams went into the game undefeated and leading
the league. Play was intense and skilled, and the Trent team played a
strong game. The final score was 12 – 0 in their favour.
"The men's rugby team continues to be undefeated and they are now
solidly in first place of their division. This Trent team has turned the
corner and is now a power in varsity sports," says Trent Athletics
Director Bill Byrick.
Coach Scott Dawson agrees. "The season is going extremely well,"
he says. "Over the past two seasons Trent has received a significant
number of players who have played at a high level, and there is a growth
of interest in rugby at Trent. This year we had about 55 players come
out for the men’s team and approximately 45 are practicing on a
regular basis."
The next game for the varsity men’s team takes place on Thursday,
October 10, at York University. If they win one of their next two games
in the Ontario University Athletics Men’s Rugby Division 2 league
play, they will obtain a home-field advantage for a play-off game with
a high-ranking team from Division 1. A win at that point would ensure
the team’s participation in the championship tournament, which takes
place between November 2 - 9.
