Alumni Golf Tournament
Honours Paul Wilson
Trent
alumni, and other members of the Trent family, turned out in record numbers
for the annual Alumni Golf Tournament in Port Hope on Saturday, September
21.
93 golfers took part in the tournament to honour retired Athletics Director
Paul Wilson. The net proceeds from the days activities are expected
to top $5,000, and will be allocated to the PSB Wilson Fund for Athletics
and Recreation.
Alumni Director Tony Storey noted that alumni from Ottawa, Barrie, Milton,
the GTA, Southwest Ontario and Pennsylvania were present. "Alumni
are very eager to pay tribute to Paul, and the amazing impact he has had
on our university during his wonderful and inspiring career here,"
he said.
The Trent community was very well represented at the tournament, as faculty,
staff, retired colleagues, first-year student Rob Wolff and Board members
(including President Bonnie Patterson and former board Michael Beswick)
all participated.
The
PSB Wilson Fund for Athletics and Recreation (a permanent endowment fund)
was launched in the spring of 2002 to honour the 36-year career of Paul
Wilson, and to strengthen facilities and equipment at the Athletics Complex.
The minimum goal of $100,000 has been exceeded with over $140,000 now
received in donations and pledges. Team Wilson (a volunteer committee
planning the fundraising campaign) is pleased to acknowledge the lead
contribution of Peterboroughs AON Inc. in successfully establishing
the Wilson Fund. Local lawyer and alumna Karen Sisson 78 noted that
Team Wilson is still working to attract new support: "The greater
the endowment in the Wilson Fund, the more that can be achieved annually
to strengthen the Athletics & Recreation operation at Trent. And we
know how much that will please Paul."
