Adult Learners' Week: The Spirit of Lifelong Learning
The
Continuing Education Department of Trent University has just released
its catalogue of courses for fall, 2002, coinciding with UNESCO's International
Adult Learners' Week, September 8 - 14.
This year marks the first time that Canada has celebrated Adult Learners' Week, a worldwide event highlighting the importance of life-long learning.
Continuing education courses at Trent cover a wide range of topics. Some examples from the fall offerings include courses entitled "Gloria Romae: a Tour of the Churches of Rome," "Genetics: the Pandora's Box of the 21st Century," "Wanderlust: Being a Tourist" and "Stormy Weather: 20th Century Canadian Novels." As well, a new series of professional and management programs are being offered for the first time this year.
Lisa Clark, co-ordinator of Trent's continuing education courses, was pleased with the success of many of last year's programs and is looking forward to the courses starting this fall. Two courses that were extremely popular in the fall session last year were "Where the Shadows Lie: The Lord of the Rings and the 21st Century Hero," with Mac Fenwick, and "The Business of Freelance Writing" with Ann Douglas.
In recognizing the importance of Adult Learners' Week Lisa will represent Trent University at a town hall meeting in Lindsay on Thursday, September 19, at 7 p.m. This is an open meeting designed to foster discussion about life-long learning and local projects.
