Trent Students to Host Environmental Science Exhibition for School Children |
||
Trent University students taking the Environmental and Resource Science - Biology 270 course will host an Environmental Science Exhibition at a local elementary school. The exhibition, to be held at Millbrook/South Cavan Public School on Wednesday, November 30, is an opportunity for the students to develop an exhibit that will interest children in environmental science concepts through hands on learning. As well, it will allow the students to test some of the ideas and techniques learned in their ERSC-BIOL 270 course, Environmental Science for Teacher Education. The exhibits will be self-directed learning centres with a combination of media and materials to allow the children to learn from the displays with some facilitation from the exhibit designers. There will be 18 exhibits on subjects related to the Ontario Science Curriculum with topics ranging from vermicompost to global warming. The event will run throughout the school day. About 250 students in Grades 1 to 6 will attend the exhibition. The Trent students will be graded on their exhibits and each one must write an individual report on the project. The Environmental Science Exhibit is one of two practica in the course. The second, based on outdoor education, will be held in March at Camp Kawartha. Posted November 24, 2005
