Award-winning Writer Charles Foran to Give Reading at Trent University |

Mr. Foran published his most recent novel, Carolan's Farewell (HarperCollins) in August and has also written House on Fire, Butterfly Lovers and Kitchen Music. His non-fiction works include Sketches in Winter and Governor General's Award finalist The Last House of Ulster. An award-winning journalist, Mr. Foran reviews for the Globe and Mail, writes for many magazines, including Walrus, and his well-known for his radio documentaries produced on CBC's Ideas. Mr. Foran's reading will begin at 8 p.m. at Traill College in the Junior Common Room. The Department of English organized the first Writers Reading Series in the 1988/89 academic year. Its members decided to mount a reading series which would not only bring to the University established writers who are well-known on the reading circuit, but also act as a showcase for newer writers who have not yet developed a wide audience. The Series will continue with a reading from mystery writer Barbara Fradkin on Thursday, November 17. A former child psychologist, Ms. Fradkin now devotes her time to writing mysteries. An active member of Canada's writing community, she has received three nominations for the Crime Writers' of Canada Arthur Ellis Award for Best Short Story. Ms. Fradkin also publishes a police series featuring Ottawa Police Inspector Michael Green. The series includes Do or Die (RendezVous 2000), Once Upon a Time, which was shortlisted for Crime Writers' of Canada's 2003 Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel, Mist Walker and Fifth Son.
