Barbecue Cooks Up Funds for the United Way |

Trent President Bonnie Patterson presented the United Way of Peterborough with a cheque for $17,118 at a charity barbecue outside Champlain College Tuesday. Dawn Straka, United Way 2005 campaign chair, accepted the cheque. The amount is one quarter of the University's United Way fundraising goal of $53,000. Ms. Patterson and Ms. Straka then served up burgers and hot dogs to students, staff and faculty. Other celebrity chefs included Registrar Susan Salusbury, Gerry Mason, president of OPSEU, Susan Apostle-Clark, vice-president Academic, Don O'Leary, vice-president Administration, Susan Mackle, vice-president Advancement, Bill Byrick, director of Athletics and Recreation, Richard Morgan, senior development manager and Sybil Nunn, Communications' administrative and planning assistant. Barbecue participants had their chance to win prizes at mini-putt and tickets were sold for the Trent University United Way Basket Raffle.The draw will be held October 31 for the 18 baskets created and donated by various University departments.
