$18,000 raised for Cystic Fibrosis and Otonabee College wins the ISW cup Introductory Seminar Week (ISW) 2005 has wrapped up with another successful and fun week for first-year students as Shinerama clocked in at $18,000 and Otonabee College took the ISW cup. Everyone involved in coordinating ISW worked very hard to make all the events safe and fun, said Meri Kim Oliver, senior director of Student Affairs and Community Partnerships. "Everyone deserves credit for the week's success – the students participated in record numbers, were positive and watched out for each other. The leaders took their responsibilities seriously and planned activities with consideration to student safety. The co-chairs participated in risk management training and supervised their activities accordingly." Campus life programs coordinator Tim Brock and ISW coordinator Shari Walsh participated in training during the summer by the Canadian Universities Reciprocal Insurance Exchange and implemented this training with the co-chairs. Trent University Emergency First Response Team had team members, now trained as First Responders, on site at all the colleges and provided assistance as needed. Security was stepped up for specific events and officers were available and helpful, she said. It meant a fun week with no major incidents, setting a positive tone for the year's activities. Following the presentation of the ISW Cup to Otonabee College at a breakfast and pep rally at Traill College Saturday, hundreds of students fanned out across the City of Peterborough to raise money in a variety of ways for Cystic Fibrosis. Fundraisers included a car wash, shoe shines and busking. A group of students from each College "shined" the Lift Lock by cleaning the railings and sweeping the stairs around the Peterborough landmark. Funds raised to date for 2005 are over $18,000 and counting. Photo 1: A Shinerama car wash at the Lift Lock Visitor Centre raised money for Cystic Fibrosis.
