textHELP Software Now Available to all Trent Students |
||
Workshops held to train faculty and staff A voice-to-text software program, designed to help users with writing and editing is now accessible on Trent University’s computer network for the use of all students.
textHELP can help users tackle the editing process ensuring, for example, use of correct punctuation or the proper use of homonyms, says Marlene McIntosh, a certified textHELP trainer from Cambrian College.
Ms. McIntosh led three workshops on August 30 and 31 for faculty, IT staff and academic skills advisors.
“We’re teaching them how to use textHELP so they can help students use the software,” she said.
textHELP was previously available to students with reading and writing disabilities within the Disability Services Office, says Eunice Lund-Lucas, manager of Disability Services.
“We found it made such a difference with our students that we wanted to make it available on a broader basis, to any student who might need it.”
